Window Centrics
Six steps to make the most of your house windows.
When designing a home, use wall plans as well as floor plans. WindowCentric home design principles help you do this by focusing on six standards that maximize the benefits well-placed windows can bring to your home, making a noticeable difference in how your home looks and feels. 1 Capture light throughout the day
Sunlight is an essential architectural tool. Use it well -- with careful window choice and placement -- and transform an interior as the sun moves through the day.
2 Channel fresh air
Proper ventilation is more sophisticated than opening a window or two. For example, use roof and wall windows to funnel warm air outdoors or place windows on opposing walls to channel air throughout your home.
3 Control the view
With the right window or patio door positioning, spectacular scenery can be the focus of a room or even the entire home. A huge picture window or a perfectly aligned group of smaller windows celebrate a home’s surroundings.
4 Blur the line between indoors and out
Walls of windows or patio doors unify homeowners with their surroundings. When the distinction between outside and in fades and as walls become transparent, outdoor spaces start to feel like rooms.
5 Design with shapes
Windows and patio doors are essential in creating a home that speaks to its occupants. Use window sequences to paint shapes with light. Achieve just the right look with recurring patterns or isolated statements that bring rhythm to a home.
6 Personalize the details
Windows and patio doors complement your home's architecture. Art glass panels splash color inside while grille patterns enhance traditional character or add contemporary flair. Latches and handles that match the home’s décor are natural finishing touches
7 Turn your dreams into a plan
Choose windows, create combinations, and customize your wall plan.
Determining energy efficiency before you finance your new window with Xpress Financial
Energy-saving technology can make a major difference in your comfort and energy use – with products that deliver up to 74% more energy efficiency*.
What makes new products so energy efficient? It’s how we put it all together that sets us apart.1 Multiple panes of glass.
Two or three panes of glass means more layers of protection between the weather and your home.2 Low-emissivity (Low-E) glass coatings.
- These special coatings on the glass reflect heat energy.
- In the winter, it reflects heat back into the room, keeping your home warmer. Low-E coatings also block the sun’s harmful UV rays, helping to prevent fade damage to your carpet, furniture and window treatments.
- In the summer, Low-E glass reflects heat away from your home, keeping it cooler.
3 Argon.
This colorless gas is denser than air. Pella inserts it between the panes of glass to provide extra insulation from the heat and cold.4 Innovation.
Window companies craft their products with a variety of ingenious features that increase their ability to improve your home’s energy efficiency – such as different combinations of glass, thermal breaks to further separate the inside from the outside.InsulShield® Energy Performance

Understanding Center-of-Glass Values
Center-of-glass (COG) value - glass alone, no frame - is an easy way to compare the energy performance for each glass type shown below. (Note that these numbers differ from the products' NFRC labels which show "whole product" - glass and frame - values.)
U-FactorThe U-Factor represents the rate of heat flowing out of the window or door in an hour's time. The lower the number, the better the glass insulates.
SHGC
Solar Heat Gain Coefficient rating tells how effective the product is at blocking the radiant heat. The lower the number the less heat the glass allows into your home.
1 Glass options can be upgraded to offer the benefits of our InsulShield energy performers. Glass options may vary per product. See specific product information for availability.
2 Optional high-altitude Low-E insulating glass does not contain argon in most products. Please see your local Xpress Financial Contacto sales representative for more information.
3 Designer Series® windows and patio doors with Advanced Low-E triple-pane glass have superior NFRC U-Factors and SHGC ratings among top national wood brands.
4 When compared to top natonal wood brands with similar glazing, triple-pane glass significantly reduces sound transmission.
5 HurricaneShield impact-resistant insulating glass is made up of a sheet of tempered glass combined with a sheet of laminated glass. For best performance, the laminated glass may be the interior or exterior pane of insulating glass, depending on the product. It can withstand an impact equivalent to that of a two-by-four traveling at 50 feet per second.
